GENERATION EUROPEANS - LEARNING THE EU JEAN MONNET INITIATIVES FOR SCHOOLS

UNITED IN DIVERSITY

Cultural diversity in the EU, Belonging to many communities

Belonging to many communities task. Partner schools can create the communities which each EU citizen belongs to by using the concentric circles craft shown below. Then, each partner should find a way to place the people on this board so as to depict that we all belong to the same societies, we interact with each other and our actions impact each other. Each partner should present and explain its choice.

Belonging to many communities

9th. Primary School of Mytilene, Lesvos, Greece:

We decided to tie up our figures in web-like networks on our concentric circles. These networks can provide opportunities for collaboration, exchange of ideas and participation in joint initiatives.

Our idea of our world is based on a poem of Yiannis Ritsos, “ the Poet of Peace”, who was honored with the Lenin Award.

“If all the children on the earth

held hands firmly

boys and girls in line

and started to dance

the circle would be very very large

and it would hug the whole earth I think.”

So, the children may prevent many of the bad things in our world due to their innocence and sense of solidarity. Of course, the poem goes on to summon the adults, as well, to leave their offices for a while and join in the circle so as to extend that circle of love, peace and brotherhood. Because the Earth belongs to all people of whatever colour, religion or race.

We decided to raise our hands to convey enthusiasm, signifying that we, as European citizens, can cooperate with the aim of progress and sustainability for our communities. Simultaneously, we raise our hands to reach for the dream of unity, solidarity, peace, and well-being for all people in Europe, regardless of their color, origin, or beliefs.

The EU is like a machine.Everyone depends on each other and everyone is directly or indirectly affected by others. Force is in Unity! 9th Primary School of Mytilene.

Force is in unity-concentric circles

Primary School of Kato Tritos

Students create the Concentric circles and understand that they constitude part of a larger community that values peace, stability, and mutual respect, and where every voice has the potential to shape the future of Europe. It is about participating in the democratic process, understanding the shared values of human rights, freedom, democracy, equality, and the rule of law, and contributing to the common good of society.

The activity allowed the students to know and understand their world. It raised awareness to how vast their world is, how important their role is and above all their relationship to others. And they had great fun!

United in Diversity

Let's create the flags of the EU member countries with the tool ZaplyCode https://www.zaplycode.it/play/login  to learn more about them. Flags hold immense cultural significance for countries and regions, representing their history, identity, and values. They serve as powerful symbols of unity, reminding citizens of their shared heritage and common goals. In the case of the European Union, the flag with its circle of gold stars on a blue background represents the union of diverse nations in pursuit of peace, prosperity, and cooperation. It symbolizes a commitment to a shared future and serves as a reminder of the importance of collaboration and diplomacy in an increasingly interconnected world. Flags are more than pieces of cloth; they are emblems of collective identity and aspiration.

The idea is we all upload a RealTime photo on Monday 27/11/2023 at 12.00 of where we are and what we are doing. This will emphasize the impact of our Interactive communities task. The students will realize that we have so many things in common.
